Écaussinnes is a semi-rural town in Hainaut, famous for its fortified castle, its stone quarries and its traditional "Goûter matrimonial". Made up of Écaussinnes-Lalaing, Écaussinnes-d'Enghien and Marche-lez-Écaussinnes, it keeps a village character, with housing scattered between meadows and old quarry sites. The car population is family- and work-oriented, with estates, SUVs and tradespeople's vans, and many residents commute daily to Brussels, Charleroi or La Louvière.
